  1. What programs would be the easiest to use to convert and add an audio file to an avi video?

I have a wav file which I have edited and trimmed to the correct length to mux with the raw avi video, however I need as a final product an avi which has mp3 audio 128 bitrate, 2 channels so that it will match with the video which comes before and after this clip. If the codecs don't match up, I won't be able to join the clips.

Most of the programs I have are for video: Virtual Dub, Avidemux, Xmedia Recode, Movica

    thanks for the help!

Make sure you have Lame ACM installed.
Open the video in Virtualdub. Set Audio/Full processing mode.
Then select Audio/Audio from other file/ (point it to your wav file)
Audio/compression. Choose Lame mp3and choose your required compression on the right. (CBR works better).
OK out. Set Video/direct stream copy.
File - save as a new AVI
