    my old dcr trv460 sonyonly shows a blue screen when i try to play to copy to dvd.maybe head dirty? i have a head cleaner but keep getting error message that tape is locked?? both ways?

    Can I clean heads manually by using a cloth? should i use a liquid? Any ideas would help - thanks

    The VCR experts usually hang out in the "restoration" forum, here at videohelp.com.
    I would post in there. In general, I'll mention that the heads are very fragile and it takes care to clean them.
    Some isopropyl alcohol, lint free cloths or swabs like those here:

    You're not trying to copy a commercial (copy protected) tape are you?

    Get a head cleaning set or used isopropyl alcohol with lint free cloths.

    Thanks to everyone - I bought an 8mm tape cleaning cassette,but it keep coming back with the error message that the tape is locked, when it is not. I am now trying to clean manually - I have new cannon Vixia hv30 which is great, but I am trying to copy older tapes to dvd using a firewire cable to my mac I Movie - i do have some copied to dvd and i think i can copy from the dvd to I movie
