Hi, i got this MKV, 1280x536
My problem is that my TV can only show 16:9: 14:7 or 4:3 ..OR squeeze to fit..
So.. yeah, i want to add black borders to the MKV so its 1280x720 instead..
Is that possible without having to reencode?
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

You can do all sorts of things to change the display at the container level losslessly using the MKVMerge command line such as cropping, change aspect ratio, change display dimensions, etc.
However there is no adding borders that I know of.
In theory, with some algebra, you could add borders by default if you were able to change both the aspect ratio AND the display dimensions, however both commands are mutually exclusive with MKVMerge, so it can't be done this way.
Unless someone sees something I don't, I'd say the only way I can see is re-encoding unfortunately.
I guess the reason for this is that MKV is only a container and can only work with what's in it. Cropping, aspect ratio, display dimensions are easy. Adding borders is actually adding content that is not in the container already. This is my hunch.Last edited by PuzZLeR; 16th Nov 2010 at 15:09.
