    Hello everyone,

Just looking for some advice on the ripping of my DVD collection for viewing on my HTPC, ipod, and other devices. I was using handbrake, however was having trouble with it hanging. It would stall on the muxing part or somewhere else. Looked around for solution and lots of people said that this was normal (not in my book to stall on muxing a 20 minute family guy episode for 38 hours). So I found StaxRip and this program is really nice. No problems so far, except that I cannot seem to rip from a DVD where the episode are not exactly 1 .VOB file. Handbrake would read the chapters of the DVD and then you could encode different files of each chapter, but that does not seem to be the case with StaxRip. I can go through DVDshrink first to make vob files of each chapter, however this will add a lot of time to the process.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi,

you can rip with MakeMKV which automatically creates a single MKV file for each title, the MKV files can then be processed with file batch mode.

So I was able to run MakeMKV on the 1st season of Weeds disk #1 and there were some errors I think. Here is what it said
    Code:
    MakeMKV v1.6.0 win(x86-release) started
The new version 1.6.2 is available for download at http://www.makemkv.com/download

It did create individual mkv files which was great. I then ran it through Staxrip with the ipod device setting and mp4 container for ipod, however the files that came out have audio problems (not syncing) and sometimes studdering and ghosting on playback in both itunes and on the ipod.

Will the ipod setting of Staxrip produce a file that conforms to the following? If not how can I change the settings?

Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats

    Thanks again for the help.

OK. I'll try that. Does Staxrip use this to put the encoded file into a mp4 container and I happen to have an old version? I see that it is a command line program so would I have Staxrip output a mvk file then feed it to mp4box to change the mvk file to an mp4 container? Is there an automatic way to do this?

Again thank you for the help

So I was able to replace the mpbox with the latest one and ran staxrip again, but still have audio that does not match up with video. Here is the log from Staxrip. Is there anything in here that you can suggest needs tweaking to get the audio and video aligned?

                              Autocrop
    ------------------------------------------------------------

Autocrop sometimes hangs depending on source file and source filter.
In case it hangs uncheck the crop filter or disable it in the options.

    FFVideoSource("%source_file%", cachefile="%working_dir%%source_name%.ffindex")
    AssumeFPS(29.970)
    Crop(0,0, -Width % 8,-Height % 8)
    ConvertToYV12()
    AutoCrop(mode=2,samples=20)
    Thanks

If MKV output is fine then the problem must either be x264 or mp4box.

Thanks again for the pointers. I'll check the MKV file and go from there.
