Xmedia Recode Crashing when converting to MKV

The past 3 versions or so of Xmedia Recode seem to be crashing on me when converting files to MKV. My Bad, as I don't recall which was the last version I had that worked and I've been lazy about posting this.
I have tried both of the latest install version and the portable version - 2.2.7.7

Haven't heard back from the author, but I had time tonight to experiment with different builds from his archives. Seems 2.2.4.4 is the most stable one on my system. Guess that will have to do for now.

Hi,
have the same problem. Using the x264-Codec always causes a crash with the "libx264.dll".
And yes, v.2.2.4.4 is the newest version which causes no crash - I use the same version.
I have heard updating the ffdshow would help, haven't tried it until now.

Does anyone have an idea for our problem?

The same problem occurs to me. I am using v.2.2.9.3 Portable.

I'll try to encode x264 into an AVI conteiner and let you know the results. If anyone, by the way, suceeds in encoding x264 to mkv with this app (Xmedia Recode), please let me know.

Ok, I've done several and several tests with the portable and the installable versions (v2.2.9.3).

Looks like MKV container is still somehow buggy, I guess.

Otherwise, I've noticed that the program rarely considers my chosen video bitrate. When I try to encode a backed-up DVD to 1500kbps, usually the results come between 450 and 750kbps - regardless of the codec chosen (I've tried Xvid, MP4 and MP4/AVC) and its configuration (Trellis, B-Frames, etc).

Anyone got a hint?
