Looking for a simple, effective, freeware tool to convert an encrypted dvd to avi, and, then edit the resulting file.
Have tried avinet, windvdp. and, autogk, first two won't work (at least not on encrypted dvds,) the last appears to want you to take each individual file and add it to the list to be converted.
just want to load disc into program, and, let it convert dvd to .avi, then later take avi of entire disc an edit it.

VirtualDubMod or AviDemux should do most of what you want -- but don't expect anything to be "simple" if reading directly from the disc in the DVD drive. Keep things uncomplicated by first copying the disc contents to your harddrive. Thereafter, you can convert to .avi and edit (although I would recommend editing first before converting to .avi).

There is no such tool. filmboss80 has overlooked that you said your source is encrypted DVD.

Rip. Then convert. It's that simple.

If you don't like that, well, you are out of luck.

Indeed, I did. Yep, you'll first need a ripper. Thereafter, you can follow the rest of the advice given. Not too complicated.
