    Hi.

I installed a Realtek HD audio codec, on Windows XP, and sound comes out, but I can only hear it from the subwoofer.

There are two plugs coming into the computer (- one from the subwoofer, and one from the two speakers -) and I connected them both (in the right places, I think) but I cannot hear any audio coming from any of the two speakers. I do hear the subwoofer loud and clear, though.

I'm no audio wiz, but shouldn't the audio come out through the speakers?

I don't know what other information to give out, so please ask me, if any more is required.

    Thank you in advance.

  3. Examine and describe your speaker set carefully. Typically, Subwoofer and two speakers are all linked, then there is ONE cord going from speaker set to computer. It would be unusual for the subwoofer and two speakers to each have an individual connection to the computer.

The cord to the PC is usually green, as is the jack to the PC.

    Hi, guys.

Thank you very much for the reply.

So, there are two rows of audio jacks on the PC. The top row has orange, black and white jacks. (I think all three of these can be used for a speaker system.) The bottom row has blue, green and pink jacks (in the same order as the top jacks). (I think the blue one is line in, or something, and the pink one is microphone. The light green one is still for speakers, probably.)

There are, like I mentioned, two green plugs coming from the speaker system. One goes directly from the subwoofer, and one comes from the wires which connect the two speakers together.

And I plugged the subwoofer plug into the black jack, and the speakers plug into the green jack.

[Are you saying that only one of the green plugs should be inserted into the PC, Nelson37? I never thought about that before.]

Now, there is also a program that runs on the PC, since I installed that driver, and it asks me every time I plug something into the audio jacks "what did you plug in?"
When using both green plugs (as I have always done), I have generally said that I was connecting "Line Out", when prompted, (as opposed to "Centre/Subwoofer Out", "Rear Out", "Side Out" and, of course, "Microphone In" and "Line In") or else I could not hear any sound from the subwoofer, either.

Hopefully, it's all clear now for you. (Because I still have no idea, except for maybe just using one plug, not both.)

    Thank you very much.

Is there a manual with your speaker system that describes the plugin setup? If you plug both green plugins into the green and black then you need to set your system to 4 speakers or to enable the black jack to be used.

    What speaker system is it?

    Hi, Johns0.

The speaker system did arrive in a separate box, with the PC, but there was no manual or anything else inside other than the speakers and the subwoofer. It was only about 7-8 dollars extra.
Maybe it should be mentioned that I did not buy the operating system for the PC with the PC. So, the builder of the PC did not install any drivers for me. (But I did get the drivers from a specialist.)

It couldn't be because of the audio driver, could it?

Should I plug in both green plugs, or no?

Oh, and I really have no idea how to set the system to 4 speakers or enable the black jack. I thought the proper driver would take care to enable everything that needs enabling.

    Thanks.

    P.S. Sorry, I forgot: It's a black Logitech, with 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer - 2.1. That's all the information I got from ibuypower.com.

In your start menu there should be a program listing for realtek audio which you open and that's where you configure your audio so that the black port can be used for the subwoofer input. You can go to logitech forum after you look at the speaker system and get the model number if you need more help.

But is it okay that I plugged in both green cables, even though there's only one green jack?

At least tell me that, please.

(I gotta say, it's not great for me that now I have to re-post the whole question - and there's an awful lot to explain, as you can see - on yet another forum.
Oh, man, I never would have thought that such a crappy audio system would be so complicated to set up!... Don't ever buy Logitech!!! I know I won't again!)

if you are only using standard 2 ch sound, then usually you would plug the sub into the green output, and the satellites plug into the subwoofer. that is why nelson said to examine your speakers carefully... is there another jack on the subwoofer to plug the satellites into?

if you wish to use the 5.1 channel outputs, and actually plug each speaker into its corresponding output (sub, lt front, rt front, etc..) then you need to find the realtek control panel on your pc, and set it up for 5.1 ch sound.

but from what you describe, ONE black plug from the subwoofer, and ONE green jack from the satellites, it sounds to me like the satellites do indeed plug into the subwoofer somewhere. maybe even vise-versa, but sounds like you should only have ONE connection to the PC's green output jack. can you tell us exactly what brand and model speakers do you have and we can help you faster?!

    Wow, thanks, man! That's it!
You're the man! You're THE MAN!

Damn, I'm such a nincompoop when it comes to audio stuff, I hadn't the slightest idea to check to see if there's a jack at the back of the subwoofer!...

    It works perfectly now.

Thank you very, very much, TooLFooL. I would never have guessed it alone.

P.S. By the way, just to show exactly how it worked: green plug from satellites into the subwoofer; green plug from subwoofer into green jack at back of PC. Good sound!

    Yes, thank you again, TooLFool!

Oh, when you say knocking, you're referring to when I said "crappy"? I'm sorry about that, but even in the heat of the moment I did not mean "crappy" as in garbage, I meant "crappy" as in cheap, of a low price. My bad!

    Cheers!
