I am trying to play the new MMO Final Fantasy XIV which comes out later this month. That game requires a lot of processing power to play, much more than any of my current computers.

I figure I might as well just start over and build one from the ground up. My brother recently bought a 3.2ghz quad core, 1GB video card, 4gb ram, 600 GB HDD comp for about $600, and that included the case. Still I know it all starts with the MOBO but I don't really know which one I should get. The computer needs to be comparable to my brothers because even his comp barely passed the benchmark for the video game.

My budget is around $600. I already have a 256mb video card but its about 3 years old. I also have year old ram. Thanks! Any suggestions are very appreciated!

Gigabyte is a better brand of a motherboard.

    Just my 2 cents!

    and

I see the 20 dollar price difference but I don't really know enough about computers to understand the processing difference. Can anybody explain?

one has built in on-board video and is made by a good company, the other no video and is an asus budget line product.

Do I want built in, on board video? I know I'm buying a 1GB video card, so is build in video necessary?

  7. Maybe not right now, but on your next upgrade you could put together a cheap box and sell it, the other mobo you would have to throw in a video card.

    I also prefer Gigabyte boards.

I want a video card. I'm going to need a good one to run this game. It's not a normal video game. Requires an insane amount of processing power. My brothers computer I described above only got an average score on the games benchmark test.

So why the question about on-board video? You'll just not use it, and use the video card instead. On-board video becomes a non-issue when deciding on a motherboard; you'd focus on the other specs of the M/B and make your choice.

Unless you have an extra video card with a compatible interface sitting in your spare-parts bin, onboard video is good to have as a backup in the event your primary video card has a problem.
