Saw this awesome snow ski movie on Vimeo with acrobatics, like 59 megs when saved as mpeg4.
http://vimeo.com/7674096
Decided to try and save it to my HD.
Google search lead me to Freemake. Downloaded it, and grabbed this video off Vimeo in HD.
Problem is, when I playback using mplayer home cinema, it's real jittery, playing blocks of video, then stuttering, then more blocks, etc.
I can see in the stats window in the bottom the following:
Frame rate: 4.06 (1X)
Sync offset avg. 964 ms, dev 146 ms.
Frames drawn: 644, dropped 2952
jitter: 337 ms
That's a lot of dropped frames.
Also, there are like 25 or 30 vertical lines on the right hand side of the screen, not present in the video when played from Vimeo site.
What gives ?
I tried saving it as a mpeg 4 - - and also tried complete download / save as an .avi but same problem in both videos.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Sounds like a crappy downloader.
Try downloadhelper for firefox or streamtransport to download the source flv or mp4. Don't convert anything. -
I think a poweful pc is required to play HD smoothly. The higher resolution of the hd video put more load on the processor.
It would help if we know your pc details. -
Try also play with latect VLC MEdia player and MPCHC.

I have an AMD Athlon processor 3000+
2.00 Gigahertz speed
1 Gig RAM -
VLC player plays with less choppiness the mplayer . . .
Installed Streamdownloader and low and behold, according to the Vimeo URL showing in Streamdownloader this already is an mp4 file.
But no matter which player I use the 25 to 20 vertical lines still show on the right hand side of the screen - - which do not show when playing the file through web browser through the vimeo site.
Hmmm . . . -
Are you using a single core processor? I think that might be your problem with playback. True hd playback really needs a dual core to do it smoothly. Also do you have a recent video card? It should be able to do a lot of the processing on its own to ease the load of the processor.
I dowloaded it with streamtransport and had no problem playing the flv file. I have a amd dual core 2.7ghz processor and I have a ati all in wonder hd pci-e 512mb graphics card.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Yoda,
Did you notice any vertical lines in the video playback ?
What player did you use ?
Yes, it is single core and the vid card is not a fancy one, >4 years old. -
@sarbot - I did not notice any graphical issues. Though I'm not a ski nut so I only watched half a minute or so to make sure it played correctly.
I think I used mpchc - that is what I mostly use for flv - sd or hd.
I hate to admit it but for high def you should consider upgrading. See if your motherboard supports dual core. You may be able to upgrade the processor without changing anything else. Also a cheap video card from 2 years ago would probably suffice. Can't offer suggestions but newer would be better for high def playback.Donatello - The Shredder? I will upgrade to an AMD Phenom multi core and AMI Radeon HD 5850 1024 X 2
