  1. Does anyone know how I add an itunes song (.mp4) to my .avi video using VirtualDub 1.9.9.?

I get the following error message when I try to choose an audio file from another source, under the "Audio" menu:

"... .mp4 is an unknown or unsupported file type."

Thanks so much! And I'm sorry if this is a stupid qustion.

Convert the mp4 audio to wav first. Use an all-in-one converter like winff, open mp4, under convert choose audio, format->wav to cd, convert.

If that wont work the mp4 might be drm encrypted, you can then try tunebite or use audio recording tool(see http://askbobrankin.com/drm_removal.html ).

  3. wow, thanks so much Baldrick. you have come to the rescue again! I will give this a try. too bad you have to go to CD first. I hope DVD's are ok too.

Audio or music tracks you download from the iTunes Music Store are usually DRM-protected - especially those with the extension '.m4p' (MP4 protected). If the music does indeed have the .m4p extension (and did to begin with), you'll need to remove the DRM before you can do anything with it.

It's probably easier just to burn an audio CD with the track in iTunes, and then rip the tracks from that audio CD to MP3, which you can use in VirtualDub. Or capture the audio while it's playing.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  6. Got it! I checked again, and you're right...they are .m4p. look's like I have some work to do!

iTunes will convert to MP3 if it's a relatively recent purchase. They finally changed the license; it's not "protected" but it's still in their format.

If you right-click on a song in iTunes you get a "convert to XXX" choice. But, it probably says AAC (the default).

    • Select ‘Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing'.
    • Change the 'Import Using' to 'MP3 Encoder'.
    • Save the settings.
    • Go to the library and right-click on a music track and choose the option which reads 'Convert Selection to MP3'. If the track is not protected then you'll be able to convert it to MP3 format. However, if the track is a protected one then iTunes will pop-up a window telling you that the protected track cannot be converted to other formats.
iTunes will make an MP3 file and put it in the same directory as the other file.
