3-D Blu-ray discs will play in 2-D?

The question is if i take a 3D Blu-Ray disc let´s say Space Station 3D¨from NASA and put it on a 3D BD Player like the Sony BD P S470 3D capable, but the TV is a 2D Display will it or any other BD P will play it fine in 2D?

It seems such discs need to be authored for 3D and 2D to be watched normally in 2D. I think that is part of the 3D specification though, so it looks like it hold true for every 3D disc.
