    Is there any other than Blu-ray DVD player in the market supporting AVCHD format or only the blu-ray DVD player supports it?

    I have been shopping for a new DVD player recently and have not seen a DVD-only player that can play AVCHD discs, or any other HD video files. I don't expect to ever see one that plays them either.

    There is no financial incentive for adding AVCHD support or other new features to DVD-only players. The market for DVD-only players is declining as the price of a name-brand BD player gets closer and closer to the price of a good name-brand DVD-only player.

    Bottom line is you need an AVCHD compatible Blu-Ray player, a PS3, or a PC with the correct software to play DVD discs with AVCHD content. Good quality BD players are being sold for prices approaching $100. Wait for a sale or get a refurb to save money.
