  1. Hi,

    I've got a quick question.

    I have a 4.4 Gb mpg file and I want to downsize it to 700Mb. Format is mpeg2 (720x480, 9800Kbps, 29.97fps, audio 754kbps).

Because a re-encode will be necessary, I'd like to have it as H264 if possible.

I tried with VDub and I've got no result (it outputs a 2Mb ! file which doesn't play).

Is there any convenient way to do this with minimum loss of quality..? Or are there special settings I failed to do in Vdub..?

    Thanks.

  2. file size = bitrate * running time

Use a bitrate calculator to figure out what bitrate you need to get the size you want. Then use a 2-pass encode with the average bitrate set to that bitrate. Try using something like Xvid4Psp or MeGUI instead of VirtualDub.

Regarding the file not playing, do you have an h.264 decoder installed?
