I am looking to get a backdrop that will be behind me for while I host a live Conference call. I am debating what color of a velour fabric to purchase. The main 2 options I have are blue and red. Any ideas or input on what color is better for streaming video if any. I don't want the background to pop out to much and be distracting either.

Red would be more problematic than a mid luma blue.

  3. Aside from more technical issues, blue color will always be much less distracting than red; both in real life and video work (other members around here surely are more experienced in streaming live video and they could elaborate further). It also would help to place yourself away as posible from the background so it gets somewhat out of focus and also use a "back light" behind you to increase the perceived separation behind your subject and background. Good luck

Also flat background lighting will result in less compression blocking. I agree with the backlight suggestion.

Thanks for the help. I ended up getting a amethyst color background. It looks good, I'm going to test it on Monday with the camera. I do have a Lowell Omni light that we will be using for the background.

A backlight is different from lighing the background.
