  1. Our office wants to produce a training video shown at http://www.luminafoundation.org/podcasts/tuning-adventures-in-learning.html

We have a DCR-DVD650 HandycamŽ camcorder from Sony, two 8GB UltraII MemoryStick ProDuo cards and a tripod. For software, we just have Windows Movie Maker for editing the footage and the other free tools listed in this forum's list of software(which i can download when needed).

What other equipment and software would be needed for producing a video such as this?

How difficult would this be for someone who has never done this before?

    Any advice would be welcome.

Good lighting for the live material.

The animation could be done in flash or after effects or similar, or you could look at using something like Monkey Jam with hand drawn art. There are also other animation tools like Toon Boom Studio. Very little of this is free (Monkey Jam is).

Looking at that one, I suspect it is mostly Flash and Premiere, plus a lot of planning and talent.

Could a newbie do it - sure. Will it be hard work, especially if you are filling all the role sin the process - definitely.

If a room has enough light so that the people can see the presenter and his slides would I need additional lighting? If so, what are some cheap good sources of additional lighting?

Would Flash Builder 4 Standard edition be enough which can be obtained for free as per http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/free/index.html?

Would Premiere 6(I have to see if I can get a older edition from someone who does not need it) and Flash Builder 4 Standard edition be enough?

    Would you suggest any books/links/tutorials?

Thanks for your advice and time.

P.S. I posted this, but don't know why my post did not appear the first time.

If you want the video to look decent, you need specialist lighting - preferably a basic three point setup.

You are creating animation. Flash is one way, but may not be the best way. Do you know flash ? Have you animated before ? I don't know if flash builder will do what you need because at the moment, you don't know what you need.

You need to start at the beginning, which is script and story boards. Know what you need to say, then work out how to best present that information, then you can worry about how you create your assets.

We may not be able to purchase three point, but try if we can borrow it from someone or ensure the room is well lit enough to not need it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know Flash, but know Flex(and I know Flash is more suitable for creating such animations). I have not animated before. At this moment, we want to record a workshop done by a person, add some animations like the one in http://www.luminafoundation.org/podcasts/tuning-adventures-in-learning.html and upload it so that participants who could not attend the workshop can avail the material being taught in the workshop. I will go through some Flash tutorials.

This part I did not fully understand. By script and story board, you mean the timeline of the video? What do mean by assets?

Thanks for your advice and time.

Script - what is being presented - words, actions, shots, animations. Putting on paper what will eventually be on the screen. Storyboards are a visual representation of the script to give you an idea of camera placement or the animation flow. Assets - video clips, audio, animations etc. All the parts you will have to edit together.

Thanks for the clarification. I hope I manage to do it properly.

Thanks for your advice and time.
