Hello,
I edited a project for my client in HDV format using Premiere Pro CS3.
They have sprung up with additional footage, however the additional footage is standard definition widescreen (DV).
So I'm guessing I should just edit this new project in SD format, however I need to export specific clips from my HDV project (which I should mention is 1080i) to Standard Definition Widescreen format (480i).
So basically I'm going from 1080i (UF) to 480i (LF) - avi format.
Any suggestions on how to quickly do this would be most appreciated!
Thanks

speed is top priority over quality ?
as you may recall premiere isn't very good at scaling interlaced footage...
are you intercutting footage? you should be able can import your saved HDV project into your new SD project (and scale down the HDV) . Using the source monitor you can do quick trims or import specific sections of that HDV project into your timeline
I haven't mixed DV with HDV in a project. There may be field order issues (DV is BFF, HDV is TFF) , but I assume premiere should be able to sort it out -
Speed is top priority for this, gotta do a rough edit...

Premiere won't give you the best rescale but it is quick. Two ways. Set project to deinterlace = interpolate.
1. Set an HDV project, select clips then export 720x480i 29.976 Wide DV. Then import these into a Wide DV project.
2. Set a Wide DV project and import render HDV clips on the timeline.
If your DV material is 4:3 and you want a 4:3 DVD, then you will need to pre process your 16:9 HDV material to 4:3 or show them letterboxed.Last edited by edDV; 8th Jun 2010 at 16:47.

@poisondeathray : I tried that, the biggest issue is that my HDV edit was a two camera edit, so the clips are on sequences, when imported into the SD project, when I scale them down they remain cropped at 720 x 480 (WS) so the footage that was off of the screen is cropped.

@edDV I've been converting using the option #1 you listed, I know it's not the best, but it will do for now.
Thanks guys -
either re-export the hdv tape as dv or write the hdv back to tape and export from the cam as dv. the cam's hardware will do a much better job than a software re-size.

I agree. Go back to tape and export needed clips DV.
Consider that method #3.
You still have 16:9 vs 4:3 issues. Options are
1. 4:3 DV Project. Process pan/scan 16:9 to 4:3.
2. 4:3 DV Project. Letterbox 16:9 to 4:3.
3. 16:9 Wide DV Project. Show 4:3 DV material pillarboxed like they do on the news.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Both projects are 16:9 (the SD is Widscreen 1.2)

Method #3 it is! Thank you all.
