Hello.
I have a several videos that I have taken with a small digital camera, and I am trying to figure out how to make a DVD that will play properly (especially audio/video sync) in a DVD player. I am looking for a freeware solution. Here are the details:
a) digital camera is Canon PowerShot SD870 IS Digital ELPH
b) videos are AVI files
c) I have not edited the AVI files in any way
d) "Gspot" reports the following information about the AVI files created by the camera:
-- OpenDML (AVI v2.0)
-- PCM Audio 44100Hz 706 kb/s (1 chnl)
-- Motion JPEG, Codec(s) are Installed
-- 14965 kbps 1.624 Qf
-- 30 Frames/s
-- 640x480
-- sar 4:3 par 1:1 dar 4:3
e) In addition, "VirtualDub" reports:
-- video: no delta frames
-- audio: PCM 16-bit (uncompressed)
f) the audio/video in the AVI files is perfectly in sync when played on my computer with Windows Media Player, MPlayer, VLC, and VirtualDub
g) I used DVD Flick to create a DVD-video from a few of the AVI files. The few AVI files I chose are much smaller than the capacity of the DVD. DVD Flick successfully created a DVD, but when played in a DVD player the audio and video are not in sync.
h) I tried using AVI2DVD. I got errors. Here is the log file:
AVI2DVD Started !
Type mode : Avi Input
Output : Dvd
Encoder Selected : QuEnc
Start demuxing the AudioStream No.1 ...
Demuxing of the selected audio finished successfully !
[K:\DVD\Avi2dvd_temp\Extracted_Audio.ac3 190524754 Bytes]
Starts Audio correction ...
Audio Fixed successfully !
[K:\DVD\Avi2dvd_temp\Fixed_Audio01.ac3 0 Bytes]
Starts Ac3->Ac3 convertion ...
Audio converted in Ac3 successfully !
[K:\DVD\Avi2dvd_temp\AudioStream 1 AC3 1CH.ac3 0 Bytes]
[9:53:46 AM] Job NOT Done. There are warnings ... Find at
the log file the 0 byte generated file to focus where exactly
the problem appears
I believe the problem is that the audio in my AVI is PCM, and AVI2DVD expects the audio in the AVI to be AC3.
Are there some options in DVD Flick or AVI2DVD that I am not setting correctly? Or do these programs not have the capability to do this properly?
Would any of the following freeware be able to produce audio/video synchronized DVD-videos from my AVI files: Avi2Iso, DeVeDe, DIKO, DVD2SVCD, DVDforger, FAVC, FilmMachine, or VidToDisc ?
I suppose I could try them all, one by one, but I was hoping someone on this forum would know which (if any) of them would work.
Thank you.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

f) the audio/video in the AVI files is perfectly in sync when played on my computer with Windows Media Player, MPlayer, VLC, and VirtualDub
Is there some way to double-check the sync other than the above? I read on this forum that using VirtualDub was an effective way to check sync.
It's hard to say because there's not always a video reference to compare to (i.e. there's not always lips to compare the audio to)
In "Project Settings | Video" I set "Target Format" to NTSC in DVD Flick
