Ok, I know this question probably has been asked to death. I apologize a head of time. Here is my dilemma. I have a huge DVD library and I am ripping them to ISO (just the main movie) and them coverting the ISO to a smaller video Format. I am using a external hard drive attached to a Briteview the cinema tube (full 1080 support). I have been trying out mkv format and using the h264 codec and setting the bit rate to around 2500Kbps. wit resolution around 960*580. I have 50 inch lcd HD TV and all in all picture is good, but I am wondering if I can do better. My main goal is to maximize picture quality and minimize file size. I am currently messing around with handbrake and wondershare. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't upresize, convert to max 720x480/576 and then use constant quality encoding.

  4. Stick to native resolutions. For Better quality, go to Blu-ray (Sorry

Also try out all the other alternative encoders, and max out all the quality settings..
