  1. Hi,

Our school purchased a Sony Handycam DCR-SX63, which we have discovered is not "compatable" with Macs. Unfortunately we are Mac based, and returning it isn't an option now. I have been able to view photos captured with the Camcorder but the MPEGs say the file could not be opened and it is not a movie file. I discovered VLC which will allow me to view the files on a Mac, but is there a solution that will allow me to save/import these files into iMovie? I am running 10.4.11

    Thanks!
    DC

The DCR-SX63 records to MPeg2 format. You need to convert MPeg2 to DV for import to iMovie.

iMovie directly supports DV format camcorders (Digital8 and MiniDV).

Mac OSX requires royalty payments for playback or editing MPeg2.

Suggest you search "edit MPeg2" in Mac forum. It has been covered.
