I had a Philips dvp5960 which played just about every file format known to man. I never had to worry about converting anything i downloaded. just bashed it onto a disk as data and jobs a good un....Unfortunately it's broken!
Can someone give me an idea of which current players have the best format recognition? (not bothered about what disks..just the actual file format playability)
Thanks
Dan

The Phillips DVP3982 is another good one. Plays avi, divx, xvid, All Region, etc. Only thing I wasn't able to play is H264 video (It does play the audio portion), but only a very small amount of players handle that. Available at Walmart for less than $45.
