I film with the Canon XL II, but I'm contemplating getting the 5D Mark II for my B roll footage. I normally film set to 60i on the XL II... will I be able to mix the footage together and burn on to a DVD. If yes, then how?

  2. Won't intercut nicely unless they release the 720p60 firmware, which there are rumors around of

The problem is 1080p30 has only 30 samples per second, and your 60i footage has 60 samples per second. It's easy to convert 60p footage into 60i for your NLE, but you cannot generate motion samples very easily when that data wasn't there in the first place with 30p footage. So the extra samples are either blended, or duplicated to get the new frames (you get blurry or choppy playback) . You can use motion interpolation software to generate the inbetween samples, but they have issues with artifacts and slower to process

    The 7D and T2i have a 720p60 mode

Or you could shoot your 5D B-Roll at 23.976p (using appropriate camera stabilization and depth of focus), then telecine to 60i.

This is what most 5D users do. They are going for that film look.
