I have an AVI file i want to add subtitles to using AVIDEMUX.

I add in subs (.srt )using the move edit drop down menu, and in the "preview section" all is well, and subs are clearly shown on the movie.

But when i save as new avi file, there are no subs,am i doing something wrong?

    All help appreciated.

    Pensioner.

Yes, or you would have subtitles in the new file.

My guess is that you have both audio and video set to Copy mode, which streams from the old file to the new and bypasses all the filters. You need to set video to a new container type (e.g. AVI), configure the encoder for the quality you want, then save the new file.

Choose mpeg4 asp xvid. You can leave the audio as copy.

But where did you add the subtitles? I guess you want burned in subtitles and then should you add it under video->filters->subtitles.

Yep, set to mpeg4 asp xvid, left audio as copy.

then i went into video menu, and add subtitles, took srt file from folder that had original avi file and a separate file for subs.

looked in preview and the subs are showing at bottom of movie...

Then save video, but after a short process time, the new file still does not show subs (not in media player at least, even with subs on option)

I have not done any configuring during any process.

Finally managed to do it,i think where i went wrong was,

after loading movie into avidemux,i was told "unpacked bitstream detected"

This time i did not unpack it,and went through the routine of adding subs in the usual way.

Im sure this was the only thing i did differently.
