    Process I am using:

AVI captured using Lagarith in VirtualDub via ATI 750 USB. I need to cut into smaller video segments, so I mark begin/end and cut to the new section. I set VirtualDub to to "direct stream copy" for both audio and video, and then Save as AVI.

By doing this process, and given that the file is Lagarith encoded, when VirtualDub saves the new AVI, it's not re-encoding, correct? I just need to make sure I'm not inducing any additional loss by doing this.

If you use 'Direct stream copy', it's not re-encoding. Of course if you made any changes to the structure of the AVI, such as resize, trim, filtering, you would have to re-encode. But not for basic cuts and pastes.

  3. That is correct. In Direct Stream Copy mode Virtualbud doesn't even bother to decompress the source video stream. It just passes the compressed frames to the output file. Even if it did decompress and recompress, there would be no loss of quality (unless you were converting to RGB for filtering).
