    But what do you convert with? mkvmerge + avisynth can't do any encoding?

    Wouldn't it be easiest just to batch convert all with handbrake, winff or xmedia recode and use same settings.

  7. Actually I believe resolution can be different when you append MKVs with MKVmerge (not sure if every player/splitter/decoder will accept it though).

    I don't do much appending so I'm not sure why one of your videos isn't appendable.
