No. The commercial discs that had this capability were manufactured with a special chemical coating that oxidised after 24 hours exposure to the air, rendering the disc useless. No such ability exists for normal users. There is also no way in software to do this within the DVD specification. In theory, if you wrote you own playback software and codec you could do it. Otherwise, no.

"....your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be to believe the utter nonsense that
bounces around in your brain that you alone can create a better, fool-proof DVD protection
scheme even when Hollywood and their billions of dollars cannot protect a pressed DVD for
more than a few weeks(days is more accurate actually)."

Whatever happened to those self-destructing discs? Did they go to the same place as the self-erasing "one-way" rental tapes?

You can always place a sternly worded Post-It note on the DVD.

Use really, really, REALLY poor-quality DVD blanks?
I'd be wary about buying/taking a DVD that had a freshness-sticker on the packaging, though. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
