When initial installation of the internal DVD drive, the user was prompted to select the drive region code. Can and how the drive region code be reset in Win XP after initial setting?

The question is NOT regarding to disabling the drive region code but resetting the drive region code. I do not know the drive firmware version because it is the replacement for the drive in the computer. I ordered the drive from the pc manufacturer. I believe the manufacturer got the drive as the part from the part manufacturer.

The message indicated there are five times for the selection of the drive region code. I only selected the drive region code once when I installed the internal DVD drive. I should have 4 times left to reselect the drive region code, right? Does anyone know how and where to locate the window of reselection of the drive region code?

right click on the drive select properties, hardware, click on the drive you want, click properties at the bottom, click on the region tab.

Thanks aedipuss. I saw the window to change the drive region code. I also want to check and update the drive firmware but I do not know its version and manufacturer. The drive comes with the computer. Is there any universal drive firmware updating site or the drive firmware updating is manufacturer specific?

firmware is manufacturer and model specific. the wrong one will kill the drive. be careful. there is usually a label on the drive.

ImgBurn can also tell you make and model and firmware number.

See http://forum.rpc1.org/ for unofficial firmware updates and useful utilities.

No guarantees, but I've updated several different models using this site with no problems, and removed region and other arbitrary limitations.

If I find the drive model and firmware number, where I can update that specific drive, only from the drive manufacturer? But, I do not know the pc parts manufacturer. So the question is how to correctly update the driver firmware IF the drive model and firmware number can be detected.

Just Google for your "driver model" + "firmware" and you should find it pretty quickly.

And/or the forum I linked above.

He's got a thing about making sure everyone acknowledges he posted on some topic earlier.
