that's right folks, amd is giving away a 48 core beast (four 12 core opterons) and all you have to do is write an essay:

    http://blogs.amd.com/work/2010/03/03/48-cores-contest/

you should be warned, i have already entered and i must say i am a good writer, so it might be a waste of time for you guys to enter, but hey, you never know.

i should note the above was meant tongue in cheek.

    good luck.

    thank you, scum again.

If you just can't wait to get your hands on AMD's latest 12-cored 'Magny-Cours' Opteron processor, perhaps you'd care to risk buying leaked versions from eBay?

Why would video gurus write essays? It would be like a race car driver parking his formula one and walking around the track.

  5. On top of paying $9500 you have to pay $100 for shipping and wait over a month to get it.

IIRC desktop OS only support two sockets (still) so you'd be running Windows Server 2008 on there if you wanted to run a recent Windows build. Otherwise Linux. Doubt a Hackintosh would be successful due to the AMD chips. What would you plan on doing with a server OS on a rig like that? I see it running ESXi for me at home and that's about it.
