Yamb is not letting me add any video file to rip from. It says drop to it but it won't let me add anything. I used this other program called My MP4Box and it demux a files that is a H264. Is this what I get my subtitles ripped from? If so what do I use to see the subtitles in this file type? Also thanks so much. This forum is the bomb also. Very quick replies here.

What I am working on is redoing a Anime series that had bad english translation subtitles. I found a mp4 video that had the right translations. I figure this would save me more time if I just rip the correct subtitles than having to watch scene to scene and copying the right text and making a new .srt file of it. This way I can just convert the subs from the mp4 file to .srt and just sync the times. This would be much better on my eyes also. LOL

  4. are the subs hardcoded in the video? If so, you can't do anything

Otherwise, there should be video, audio and .srt or some other sub format when you open it with yamb (use the extract streams option)

How can you tell if the subs are hardcoded? Here is one example of one file I'm trying to rip the subtitles from http://rs307l32.rapidshare.com/files/274618592/Saint_Seiya_The_Hades_Chapter_Inferno_-..._Courtroom.rar . I could do word for word from this video since the translations are perfect. My next project is to sync it with VOB file.

MediaInfo. If it doesn't report the existence of a subtitle stream inside the MP4 container, then the subtitles are part of the video.

Yes, it looks like the subtitles are hardsubbed, since there's no mention of a subtitle stream. That means you'll have to do it the hard way (you can't demux them), so you'd have to OCR them - have another program attempt to read/guess the characters in the subtitles from the video. I don't have any experience in doing that, though, so I'll leave it to someone else to cover.

If the encoder is as incompetent as it appears from this, I suspect this is a re-encode of a release by some other (more skilled) group. Look for an MKV source instead, which should contain softsubs.

Thanks. I will look around for a fansub with that file type though the one I want to use has better translations and it would save me more time if I could at least get a .srt file to sync with the anime vob I want to use the subtitles for.

  13. I'm guessing that the one you have was made from a proper MKV release (which will contain an .ASS script). You can always check AniDB to see all releases by all fansub groups for any show.

Thanks this really helps. Thanks very much. This way I can ask who would also have a higher quality version.
