Hi all,
I use a Maxtor 200GB IDE drive, bought around November 2006, to do backups using Norton Ghost. Today when I tried to run a backup, Ghost froze up during the backup process (progress bar would stop at 5%), and the machine needed to be restarted.
I immediately did a full CHKDSK on the local system drive (C:\), which passed.
Then I ran a full CHKDSK on the Maxtor 200GB drive, and errors were reported. I've pasted the results below:

Based on this, should the Maxtor drive be tossed? Or is it worth keeping it since CHKDSK says it made the necessary repairs?
Thanks in advance, everyone.

It shows that it had some fragmented files.. I would do a disc defrag with your drive every now and then even though its a backup drive. When you reformat the drive you will clear the partition and then you will create a new partition, during the process of creating the partition the drive should skip over the bad sectors and leave you with only the good sectors of the drive depending on how screwed up the drive is. So the possibility of you being able to still use it is good, just need to reformat it and find out. Good luck

in the words of one rap "artist"..back that thang up...back that thang up.
one ill sector deserves another..and pretty soon it will get it..and another..and another. it's the slow descent. get your stuff somewhere else if you care about it. -
I'm with greymalkin
When a drive starts corrupting files, it usually continues to do so and its time to replace the drive. -
