I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go, 250Gb USB Hard Drive, shown here:
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FreeAgent-Portable-External-ST902503FAA2E1-RK/dp/B001FWBUUG
It hooks up to my PC with TWO USB cables, it takes up 2 USB ports on my PC. I don't know why, but that's how it is.
I want to put videos on it and connect it to my 2Wire wireless router to share with all the PCs in my house, so that it is independent of any particular PC being powered on to work.
Is there an easy (and inexpensive) way to do this?
Ideally, I'd like to be able to transfer files over to it easily!

No, NAS requires Ethernet.
You could offer the drive as a shared resource from a client machine and all will see it but that PC must remain active (always powered).Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

But it still isn't a NAS.
You can't plug a USB2 drive into a router.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Do dual USB cables improve transfer? I don't have a clue myself.

1: Increased transfer speed = no
2: The reason for the two connections was because these particular external units were designed to be used by laptop owners and "portability" where one usb port can not supply enough power.
3: As for "NAS" , yes there are usb to ethernet adapters but I have not come across one with two usb ports ... might try integrating the powered usb hub between the drive and adapter.
I'll be purchasing the adapter soon for a test to see if its possible ... already have the powered usb hub and similar external seagate go using same cable.Last edited by Bjs; 24th Feb 2010 at 20:52. Reason: additional notes

Ethernet assumes a pseudo CPU and network OS for connection. Disk drives lack that capability.
