  1. I've downloaded several videos and they play fine on WMP but the file tyes do not play well or at all when streaming them to the XBOX 360 to watch on a 52" LCD TV.

I've downloaded Any Video Converter 3.0.3 to convert them to AVI. Below is the default settings BUT what are the OPTIMAL settings to get the BEST picture from my set up?

    Video Codec: xvid
    Frame Size: 320x240 (this seems small, shouldn't I select 720x480 or 1080x720?)
Video Bitrate: 768 (my video collection has bitrates all over the place)
Video Framerate: 24 (should this be 23.97 or 25?)
    Audio codec: mp3
    Audio Bitrate: 128
    Sample Rate: 44100
    audio Channel: 2
    Disable Audio: no
    Audio Track: Default
    Subtitle: none

  2. Anyone?

    FYI,

The vids I'm converting are DIV3, DX50, XVID, DIVX (but do not play correctly on xbox 360) and 0x10000001.

I've converted most already with the default settings above and they look ok but I'd like to know if I can fine tune the settings to get the best quality picture.

  3. Try using the same frame size as your source. Use single pass target quantizer mode in Xvid. Set the quantizer to 3. That will give you a good compromise of quality and file size.

  4. Thanks jagaboo.

    The ones that are 720x480, 640x480,512x384, 352x288, 352x240 and 320x240 no prob.

    What about the other vids at: 400x336, 528x400, 560x416, 400x300, 624x464, 544x416, 672x512, 720x540, 544x400?

    Options I can convert to: 320x240, 352x240, 352x288, 368x208, 480x277, 480x320, 480x480, 480x576, 512x384, 640x480, 720x480, 720x576, 1080x720, 1280x720, 1440x1080, 1920x1080. What size should I choose for each?

Where would I find " single pass target quantizer mode" option in Any Video Converter 3.0.3? I don't think it has it. It was free afterall.

  5. Try AVI Recomp.

It will recompress the video, but will use the original audio. All you need to tell it is the size in MB you want the output file to be, and it will perform a 2 pass XviD encode.

It is specifically designed to produce "hardware friendly" files.

  6. I've never used Any Video Converter. Won't it let you keep the same frame size as the source? If not, I would choose the size closest to the source. The smaller you make the frame the fuzzier the picture is going to be when displayed full screen on the TV. Increasing the frame size will not make the picture any better.

I would take mh2360's suggestion and try AVI Recomp.
