Heres my situation. I was recording something (fairly important) using a screen capture program. The problem is, the computer crashed and had to restart before I had a chance to save the file. I found an 856.2 MB AVI file in the "temp" directory of the screen capture program created at the same time that I was using it, so I know that that's the video. The problem is, I can't get it to play at all in any program. I'm assuming it's corrupted somehow due to not being saved properly, however I really need to repair the file and get it to play. Any ideas of how to do this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Try open with virtualdub and avidemux. And if it can read it save as a new avi(in virtualdub choose video->direct stream copy and audio-> direct stream copy).

Even with MediaInfo in Tree View?
It sounds like it probably doesn't have the AVI header (if the capture was interrupted, it probably didn't have a chance to write a proper header, or write the header at all). I'm not sure how to fix that, though. If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them? -
There is program called AVIpreview.. its old, but i still use it to make longer previews of emule temp files. It works for Divx, Xvid Codecs and variants.
Its a console program, so its not for the faint hearted people.
Looks like the original author doesnt have the page available anymore, but you can find it on net, Avipreview 0.85 Beta, or on this link http://www.brothersoft.com/avipreview-download-62511.htmlLast edited by Joltkola; 20th Feb 2010 at 16:06. Reason: Fixed the link
