A nice alternative to VLC you may not have heard of: Movist. Don't care for the name much but it's a very nice player from what I've seen so far. Can use either Quicktime or ffmpeg for playback. It seems to handle WMVs much better than VLC, which is maybe my only real complaint with VLC.
