Say you're re-encoding a 16/9 DVD to Xvid at a typical ( 1000-1500 kbps) bitrate. What resolution do you use? 640x360? 720x404? Something else?
What criteria do you use to make your choice? Would you apply the same rationale to a 4/3 rip? Or other A/Rs?
I don't suppose there's a right or wrong answer, I was just interested in what experienced rippers thought.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

I leave the resolution the same as the DVD and set the Xvid PAR/DAR flags. You'll have to make sure your player supports this though.
