I am attempting to merge two avi files. They are from the same source (same settings: frame rate, bitrate etc)

Using the cat command in Terminal doesn't work.

Does Handbrake or ffmpegX have the ability to merge two files?

mencoder or ffmpeg should work (maybe)

    ffmpeg -i file1.avi -i file2.avi -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.avi

ffmpegX does have a "join" tool for mpeg and avi files.
The Guide scores in two important respects. Firstly it is slightly cheaper, and secondly it has the words DON'T PANIC inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover.

  5. Also you can use AviDemux. Just use Append in the File menu.
