Incorporing an Srt file in a Adobe Premiere (or Vegas) Timeline

Hello people.. Ive been working with subtitles for a few years ( usin dvd architect, the ussual subtitle workshop, and other clasic programs) and now i have an upgrade of the quality needs of my work. The issue is this, i have to add subtiles in a movie. Originally, i have a dvd copy and work with the text in de Subtitle Workshop and i produce the srt file. In other oportunities, the only thing i got to do later is import the subtitle file (in a .sub extention) to the DVDarchitect and that was it, but now they gave me a DVcam copy of the Movie... I captured it with Premiere (as a .avi) and i got to export it to DVcam with the subtitles. Ussualy i make a damm text line after another (a tedious process), but it got to be a way to incorpore the subtitle file (.srt .sub .text or wathever) into the timeline. Its the fukin 2010!! Please help

Can you clarify , do you mean hardsub the movie?

since you are talking about hardcoding subs, perhaps..

After capturing AVI, open in virtualdub, use the subtitling filter, adjust font/size/position. Verify timing by playing back on virtualdub.

Encode to lossless format with uncompressed audio (PCM). Perhaps Lagarith?

Import resulting file into Premiere/Vegas and encode to DVCam format.

If you install the Matrox VFW codec, then you can generate DVCam AVI right from Virtualdub.

Yes, clarify, please. You certainly can hardsub a DV AVI movie (permanent, imbedded subtitles) using either the method described by subc, or buy using the titling utilities within Premiere or Vegas. If you want to use soft subs, you need to determine the final playback format. I don't think there exists a DVcam video player with a subtitle feature, but if your final playback is DVD or mpeg-4-based avi (like divx), just subtitle the usual way after you encode the DV-AVI to its final playback form.

Tnx people, last year i didn't know even the concept of "hardsubbing". I tried a few programms but the obviuos best result was the virtual dub.
