Lacie Lacinema Classic: mkv support and defragmentation a good idea?

Hello,

I have a couple of naive questions:

• - Has anyone heard of a firmware update that would allow the Lacinema Classic to be able to play the video files that the Lacinema Classic HD can play (such as mkv / h.264 files)?
  - Hard drive-wise, I only know from the manual that the drive cannot be formatted NTFS; only in FAT32. Is there an issue with defragmenting? (I assume not, but thought I would ask in case someone else had a bad experience with such.)

All windows files systems are prone to fragmentation. The more you delete and write to the disk, the more likely you are to suffer from it. So once a month or so, connect it to your PC, defrag it, and you will be fine. If you aren't deleting and writing too frequently, you might only need to defrag it every three or six months.

As to the firmware update : unlikely. There is a good chance the classic simply doesn't have the processing grunt to play HD material. Does it even have the right outputs ?

Hmmm...the Classic does have HDMI out and it upconverts to 1080p if you select it in the options (works well today with my TV), so I assume it might have the ability to play HD material...just was not sure if someone knew of a way to provide such...

There is a huge difference between being able to upconvert SD material to 1080, and being able to actually play 1080. Not the same thing at all.
