Most all the reasons on the list. I've learned a lot on this site, though I mainly enjoy trying to help on occasion.

The first years for learning stuff and helping others. The follow years to moderate. The last year for get informed about the "scene" and because of the overall habit to be around!

    Nowadays its to help.

First it was my first foray into vcds when I got my first cd burner way back when (win95 vintage I believe - or maybe my win98 desktop).

After that it got to dvd burning and the wonderful world of dvd shrink

Now I mostly try to help where I can.

THough I do try to get help in avchd and other high def formats while its a growing and immature field. I'll probably eventually make the jump to bluray burning but not in the near future.

Until then I'll chip in where I can. I'll also post the occasional computer related question on odds and ends that pop up without a quick yahoo or google answer.

All of the Poll choices apply.
Mostly, over the years I have found that this site just has a nice flow about it. Not sure exactly why it works so well but I know if it was gone I'd really miss it.

DVD software and hardware questions over the last few years were beginning to get boring. Same questions over and over again. But now with BR being more popular there's always new questions answers and software.

I stumbled upon this site a while back. I started reading and learning. Then I decided to join to learn and spread what VERY LITTLE knowledge I have. I used to wonder how the people who put anime out in torrent world did what they do. I've accumulated 2.3TB of anime and I wanna learn how they do what they do with TV/DVD/BD.
This site has shown me stuff I couldn't never learned just sitting in form of my PC googling stuff. This site is a gold mine of knowledge. I've never seen so many people knowledgeable about so many different types of PC stuff gathered in one place. And because of this site I've built a PC specifically for coding media. I'm still learning.

"What's" as in 'what is' or "What's" as in 'what was'?
I started coming here a very long time ago because I was trying to figure out how to make VCDs. I no longer come here for that!

    All of the above.

Mainly it's to look at the tool updates, and some news, with a quick scan of the posts. But I always read and vote in the polls

I work at a production house, and several years ago we had some sort of technical impasse with some VCD footage a client brought in. I started doing an internet search for solutions and found what was then VCDhelp. I was intrigued and entertained by the site--and also found some great little tools for my production tool-belt (so many of them free). Even though most utilities here are geared toward hobbyists, they can still help the pros be a little more resourceful.

After lurking quite a few years, I finally joined up 'cos I thought I could help out here and there. This is one of my favorite sites. Kudos to Baldrick.

  23. I came here a few years back following a link from a Usenet poster named Shakespeare. I wonder what happened to him - perhaps he graduated. Anyway, I'm still here, reading the posts and occasionally adding to the conversation.

Initially to learn about VCDs and to get the best possible picture from VHS converstions; then went through the whole lot again for VHS to DVDR (and help out where I could).

Now that my VHS collection is pretty much done, I still drop in from time to time to see what software can help improve my off-air archiving.
