    Hey all

I cant count how many PC's i have built & repaired, how many PSU's that have went through my hands and i have always seen this plug on the majority of PSU's but i have never had to use it and i have never seen a mobo that used it, until NOW!!

A friend wanted me to see what was wrong with an old PC they wanted to get working, it's an old gateway.

I don't have any old PSU's around anymore that have that plug so i threw in a newer one and have nothing to plug into the mobo for that power.

I booted up the PC and installed windows XP and everything seems to be running fine.

So what is the purpose of that extra power plug on the mobo's ?

Yeah i was thinking it was for the CPU or the ramm but it all seems to run fine with nothing plugged into it.

The first thing i noticed was the ramm also,

And that stuff gets way hot!!!

Wow... $9.00, i can get a new PSU with the connector on it for $20.00, i just figured if it was running and everything is working maybe i did not need to worry about it.

I suppose i could wire the plug off the old one onto the PSU without it...
