Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have several avi files of varying length and with all of them the last portion of the video is frozen...depending on the file anywhere from 30 seconds to four minutes. The audio continues with no problem. I opened the files in VLC media player and it says that "This avi file is broke. Seeking will not work correctly." It asks to repair the file, but nothing happens...the file plays as it did before and says nothing further about repair. Thanks.

It may not work, but you could try to open one in VirtualDub and check the box for 'Ask for extended options after this dialog' near the bottom of the 'Open video file' page. Select 'Re-derive keyframe flags' on the next page. But if the break is severe or the file badly damaged and VLC doesn't work, VD may not either. You can also set the 'Decoder error mode' to ignore errors.

No luck with either option. VirtualDub just ends the file at the point where the video freezes. Thanks for the suggestions.

It's just too damaged, probably. I don't see as much of this as I used too, downloading methods/software have really improvement in the past few years -- not as much corruption.
