    From what I am reading, it is region free for DVDs, but not for BluRay discs. Given BluRay is a Sony invention, and the region controls suit Sony from both the BluRay perspective, and the movie perspective, do not be surprised if you cannot make the Bluray playback region free at all.

    i would be happy if i could unlock it and make it region free even if it's for dvd's only. right now it isn't.

    My advice is if you want a region free Blu Ray player, buy something else...
