Confusion about AutoGK, delays, A/V sync issues, etc.

Hi again,
I noticed that the latest DVD I ripped, The Terminator, is out of sync. AutoGK's log mentions that there's a delay, I forget how much, but it doesn't specify whether it's positive or negative. Also, when I try to use the appropriate amount of delay in VirtualDub, it still doesn't sync 100%. I have to round up/down, tinker a bit, etc. before it looks proper.
Why do these delays occur in the first place? How do I determine whether the delay is positive or negative? Why doesn't the A/V sync up, despite using the exact amount of delay specified in the log file?
Is there such a thing as ripping a DVD without any delay? I'm getting a bit discouraged here

How are you decrypting the DVD to the hard drive? If you're not decrypting the movie and only the movie (not the entire DVD), then go back and start over again. Most synch problems can be traced back to the decrypt.

As for the delay, AutoGK takes account of the delay already. If it's out of synch it's for a different reason (like an improper decrypt).

Run your avi (XVID) file through avimuxGUI. double click the file, highlight the out of sync audio and click run. Give your file a new name and let it save. Your file should now be fixed. Of course, I do this directly after running AutoGK. I haven't tried it after trying to manually adjust the audio. It may still work.

I used DVDFab to copy the DVDs to my drive. I'll check out avimuxGUI and see what happens. Thanks

Crap. avimuxGUI doesn't seem to be compatible with Windows 7. It crashes the second I try to run it.

Try running it in WinXP mode or as an Admin. It works for me and I am using Win7.

FYI... I just used DVD Shrink to rip the latest Terminator and it worked perfectly. I deleted all the trailors and garbage, no problems.

And you made a DVD, right? takearushfan is trying to make an AVI. Big difference. Also, if I read him correctly, you're talking about 2 different movies. He's doing number 1 and you number 4.

Yes, I am making an AVI. I ended up just manually adjusting the problem in VDub's skew correction. What's odd is that the delay amount that the log file specifies is not accurate. I had to round up by around 250ms.
