I'm looking to rip episodes from a whole bunch of DVD's acquired at Christmas. I'd like to rip them into 1 VOB per episode (or, possibly, one AVI, assuming I can be very specific in a bunch of areas ranging from codec to interlacing). Audio is optional on these and while it would be nice to have the extras, it's not urgent. I have been using Smartripper for years and will continue to do so if you folks don't have better suggestions but I thought I'd check before I got started on a lengthy project.

The qualities I'm looking for that Smartripper doesn't have:

    1. Ability to get episode names for the episodes without my help. I'd like to turn a program loose on a disk and tell it which things to rip and have it name them intelligibly and go on without much intervention on my part. I.E. something similar to what iTunes does with CDs. I want the same quality as the original DVD either in a VOB or a highly specified AVI.

    2. Something that breaks encryption and regions.

Freeware would be lovely but I'm willing to pay up to about $60 for these features if they are convenient enough.

I don't know that you would find exactly what you want, but if you run a decrpyter like AnyDVD or the freeware DVD Fab Decrptyer on the discs and use something like VOB2MPG to extract them, you would get an exact copy of the DVD files in one MPEG file. From there, you can do what you want with them.

    And welcome to our forums.
