I am thinking about buying a portable DVD player that supports divx and has a usb port. Would a 500gb portable hard drive be compatible with one? I understand the files will have to be under 4gb due to Fat32 but other than that, should everything be ok?

All the DivX files are HomeTheater profile and work on my current portable DVD Divx player on discs. The main reason I am thinking about this is not having to carry discs around all the time.

    Thank you
    John

Be warned that such a portable may not be able to provide enough power for a 500gb external disk drive via USB. If you get an external disk drive with its own power source that will probably work if you use FAT32.

The one I am looking at does have an external power source. Should I risk it?

I can't give you 100% assurance that it will work. All I can say is that more likely than not it will work. All bets are off with portables.
