Trying to capture DV from my Digital8 cam to Vegas Pro 8 which I'm brand new to. When I go to capture and specify DV as the source, I get a message "The device Cirrus Logic USB-DVR2 Source' could not be opened.

XP recognizes the camera which I've got plugged in via the Audigy Firewire interface on the breakout box, bells all over the place and it asks me if I want to capture if with Pinnacle or Nero but nuthin' on Vegas.

    Any ideas?

I've attempted to log onto the Sony Vegas forums but it's proving to be a hassle. Keeps asking me to enter my software SN and machine number over and over.

    Thanks.

    So many issues.

    1. Try WinDV for capture then import the DV-AVI file into Vegas. Your Vegas capture preferences may be set incorrectly.

    2. The Audigy Firewire interface is proprietary and needs a Creative Labs driver. Check XP device manager for the IEEE-1394 port status.

    3. "The device Cirrus Logic USB-DVR2 Source' could not be opened" further indicates problems with Vegas preferences or the Audigy Firewire driver interface.

    4. Pinnacle and Nero are known for seizing the Firewire ports in older versions making them unavailable to other applications.

I'm confident that part of it is up and running, otherwise Pinnacle wouldn't recognize it. I *can* capture with Pinnacle, WindDV, etc. but I'd like to be able to do it all from within Vegas.

I'd bet the issue is within Vegas, but I haven't found the magic checkbox yet. If I could get into the Sony forums I'm sure it would help but there seems to be a snafu there.

Apparently it was a registry issue. This fix worked.

Audigy must use the same Cirrus Logic part.
