can someone give me professional advice on mp3 ringtones creation with Audacity 1.26? The optimal audio settings for mp3 on my phone is 128 kbps Audio bitrate, 44 khz Sample rate, 2 Channels(stereo). I use mp3 files 192-320kbps bitrate as source. In many cases I use just trimming for create ringtone. Some ringtones sound good, some - very bad. This depends however from specific mp3 source file.
I want to specify about using Equalization and Compressor effects: can these give the real improvement? Equalization is for supressing low frequences from 30-300 Hz and reducing high freq. above 10000 Hz Compressor is for reducing dynamic range of sound. There is no details how to set optimal settings of compressor effect in Audacity: Treshold, Ratio, Attack time. Using trial and error method is very difficult without understanding the effect of changing each setting.

Sorry, I'm not a professional, but will try anyway.

First get the latest beta, 1.39. Much improved.

"Optimal" depends on what you start with and what you want.

I leave everything at defaults except for "ratio".

Higher ratio reduces the range. Even maximum, 10, doesn't sound bad.

Does it make sense uncheck "Normalize to 0 dB after compressing" option in Compressor, and then use Amplify effect to set a new Peak Amplitude of -3 dB?
