converting mpeg to avi or to wmv

I have a file here that is in mpeg 2

it was captured off a HD tape/camera
video is 1536x1080
video bitrate is 25000k
frame rate 29.97
audio format mp3
audio bit rate 384k

this is the first time I try and convert a HD file
but as it is now I cannot open this file in adobe premiere

is there a simple way to convert this into an adobe premiere usuable .avi file?

use mediainfo on the source file in text mode and copy and paste the info here. also what make model cam was it?

Normally you can just use virtualdubmod to convert to divx/xvid.

not sure what make the cam was all we know is it was a hd cam

virtualdub cannot open the original since it is a .mpeg

handbrake can only output to mp4? I need to convert this file to a .avi or an adobe premiere friendly output
