I have the latest ffdshow and XVid, but BSPlayer (v2.51 build 1021) still won't play any AVI or WMV (haven't tried other formats yet). The window size is correct, but it's just black. Windows Media Player 12 plays them no problem. I was trying to change the codec settings in ffdshow, but to no avail. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate.

    Any ideas?

Windows 7 uses its own DirectShow filters for decoding several audio and video formats. Using third party filters instead of the native filters is not possible without making changes to the Windows Registry. This tool allows you to configure your preferred DirectShow filters with just a few mouse clicks.

Thanks. I figured I should just change the "preferred directshow decoding filters" to ffdshow in both (32-bit and 64-bit) columns (which I did), but that didn't cut it.

I also tried the other two things Filter Tweaker has to offer in different combinations and... see above.

The lack of response is probably because both Windows 7 and BSPlayer aren't used much around here. Your problem is probably a Windows 7 issue of some kind. Perhaps it would be good to look for help on the official BSPlayer forums.

Do you hear the audio being played?

Try opening two instances of BSPlayer at the same time, with the same video. Does one instance play the video properly?

You might also pick "VFW configuration" and "Video decoder configuration" from ffdshow's Start Menu folder, highlight Codecs in the left pane, and see if any of the codecs for the videos you're trying to play are set to 'disabled' in the Decoder column.

I can hear the audio. Playing the same file in two instances of BSP doesn't change anything, still no video.

    I did that, didn't help

I even tried two different kinds of ffdshow:

    ffdshow tryouts revision 3164 dec 14 2009 (msvc 2008, x64, unicode, r)

    and

    ffdshow tryouts revision 2527 dec 17 2008 (msvc 2008, x86, unicode)
