Hi Im looking for a good SD Digital Camcorder that records in MPEG2
format unto an SD card, no HDD if possible, My range is up to $800.
I need it to record some great footage for my line of work, electronic
repair guides, so I need it to have great zoom quality.

PS: I need Standard Def cause I only use Video Studio PRO X2, and my
PC its an E6600 running WIN XP pro with 2GB ram. I think It can't handle
HD mts files since my other option was buying a Canon vixia.

    thanks

mja has a good suggestion and your computer/software should handle HDV ok. the only problem may be a firewire port, does your computer have one?

    form corel -
    Non-Proxy HDV Editing

    * Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, AMD Athlon XP 3000+ or higher with Hyper-Threading technology
    * 1 GB of RAM (2GB or higher recommended)
    * 16X PCI Express display adapter

The Panasonic HDC-HS250-K is very in teresting since it shoots SD and HD. when it records on Standard Def, what file format does it uses? since HD its .MTS, I hope the SD file is an MPEG2 one. thanks

My editing software is Video Studio X2 and my DVD authoring software is DVDLab Pro
    so I need MPEG2 files.

The Pany HDC will record both mpeg4 (.mts) and mpeg2 in SD just as you thought. I use the Sony HDR-XR200 is SD mode and it works great. I got it refurbished for a song. I highly recommend refurbished consumer electronics as it is very 'green' and easier on the wallet.
