I don't know if this has been addressed, but, i've got some soft-style subs of some tv shows that i want to burn to dvd with encore. the files are in MKV format. I've got AVS video converter, but it always messes up the sub, rendering them like crap. i'd like to be able to just import the file into encore and burn from there.

that said, i am looking for ANY advice you guys can give me.

Extract the subtitles from the mkv using mkvextract. Try convert the subtitles to some format that encore support and you can have switchable subs.

Or use free all-in-one dvd converters like avstodvd or dvdflick, convert to a dvd-video with switchable subs from the mkv file.

thanks baldrick, but i do have a question: the subtitles are in soft-sub style, meaning they are not embedded in the video, will the program you suggested recognize that?

Yes - MKVExtractGUI and AVStoDVD should, at least.
